Dear Brooks Crossing Families,
Mrs. Katz and I are excited to welcome you to the 2025-2026 school year! I hope your summer was filled with rest, adventure, and memorable family moments.
This year, we're embracing two themes that will guide our year together. Our district theme, "Rooted in Resilience, Rising with Purpose," reminds us that a solid foundation provides the stability to grow and face challenges with confidence, and that we are a part of a strong community. At Brooks Crossing, we're continuing with a theme that just works: "Kindness Begins With Me." We are continuing because we have found that our students have connected with it and better understand their part in contributing kindness to the world. We are confident that our children will continue to take seriously their responsibility of being kind to all members of our Brooks Crossing community. If everyone believes that they have a responsibility, imagine how our school will feel!
To our new Brooks Crossing families, welcome! Our teachers are excited to welcome your child(ren) into their classrooms. They are energized and prepared to make a connection and provide the quality instruction that Brooks Crossing students are accustomed to. We continue to focus our efforts on creating a safe learning environment where students are valued and free to be who they are and can practice their social and academic skills. We encourage our students to take academic and social risks, and they can do this more effectively when they are comfortable. We encourage everyone to try something new - students and staff alike!
I hope your summer was filled with rest, adventure, and memorable family moments. I had the opportunity to visit a few other countries this summer. One moment especially stood out to me. I noted, as I sat in a restaurant and looked around, that there were families with elementary aged children all around me, who were all laughing and conversing with each other and the adults at their tables. It was beautiful to see. It struck me because I realized I did not see one device in a child’s hands, at the dinner table, which afforded them the opportunity to interact and grow their interpersonal skills. This was not an anomaly, as I noted the same thing in a variety of locations. Research has found that device use directly correlates to depression, anxiety and isolation. I encourage our Brooks Crossing families to make a concerted effort to put the devices down and enjoy family time together. Your child(ren) will benefit greatly!
We know families also do a lot of work to prepare for a new school year. So that you don’t miss a moment of this upcoming year, now would be a great time to follow us on Instagram @BCESBears and Facebook for regular updates, celebrations, and behind-the-scenes glimpses of our learning community in action.
As we count down to September 4th, know that our entire team is dedicated to keeping your children safe, happy, and inspired to learn.
Enjoy these final summer days, as you make those last memories. —
With excitement and gratitude,
Jaime Maccarone, Principal
